Sailing Biography: Capt. Gary Hutson
I have been sailing on the Chesapeake Bay since 1983. In 1985 my wife Deb and I purchased a Hunter 31, which was followed later by a Hunter 34. In 2000 we bought “Reality”, a Passport 40 sloop which we dock in the Middle River, just north of Baltimore. A life long resident of Maryland, I served as a volunteer fireman and paramedic for more than 30 years. Prior to becoming a full-time captain and instructor I owned and operated an auto repair shop in Harford County, Maryland. I hold a USCG 50 Gross Tons Masters license and I am certified as an American Sailing Association Instructor through ASA Level 104, Basic Bareboat Cruising. I obtained my U S Power Squadron Senior Navigator designation in 1995, and since then I have taught their Seamanship, Sail, and Engine Maintenance courses for the Sue Island, MD, Power Squadron. I have been an active member of the Baltimore Yacht Club since 1986. I am very familiar with the Chesapeake Bay and the U.S. East Coast. My recent deliveries include a Catalina 40 from Beaufort, SC to Dredges Harbor, NJ, a C&C 34 from Chesapeake City to Pt. Washington, NY, a Catalina 42 from Barnegat, NJ to Portsmouth, VA, a Catalina 30 from Atlantic Highlands, NJ to Baltimore, MD, a Gulfstar 36 MotorSailor from Havre de Grace, MD to Haverstraw Bay, in the Hudson River, north of New York City, a Beneteau 40 from Mystic, CT to Baltimore, MD and a Morgan 38 from City Island, NY also to Baltimore. Future plans for Deb and I include more coastal cruising in “Reality”, hopefully to include the Caribbean, possibly with our daughter Kate, who is a Washington, DC, attorney. |
